The Bearded Collie is a lean, active and intelligent working dog with a shaggy double coat that must not be trimmed. Dogs NSW recommends a thorough weekly brush while the Royal Kennel Club lists daily grooming, and the breed does shed. It is described as a loyal, family-friendly dog with an independent streak, and it needs a house with a well-fenced garden rather than an apartment.
