Core puppy vaccines protect against distemper, adenovirus and parvovirus. They start at 6 to 8 weeks, repeat every 2 to 4 weeks, and the last dose is given no earlier than 16 weeks. A puppy born on 1 September has a first dose between 13 and 27 October, a final dose on or after 22 December, and a booster around 2 March.
| Step | When |
|---|---|
| First dose | 6 to 8 weeks |
| More doses | Every 2 to 4 weeks |
| Final puppy dose | 16 weeks or older |
| Booster | About 26 weeks (6 months) |
| Adult core boosters | Every 1 to 3 years, as your vet advises |
Kennel cough and parainfluenza (the C5 vaccine) is a non-core vaccine. RSPCA Australia recommends it for dogs that meet other dogs often, such as at daycare, puppy preschool or boarding, and it is boosted yearly.
Once it has been given, this works out when your puppy can go out and into daycare or boarding.

first dose at 6 to 8 weeks; final dose at 16 weeks; booster at 26 weeks
Counted in days from the date of birth: 42 to 56 days, 112 days and 182 days.
public places: final dose + 10 to 14 days; boarding: + 14 to 28 days
These two come from clinic pages, not a peak body. One clinic gives 10 days for public places and others say one to two weeks, and the same clinic advises 2 to 4 weeks before boarding, with C5. The WSAVA, the Australian Veterinary Association and RSPCA Australia pages give no number of days.
Ask them which vaccines and how many days after the final dose they need. Find a puppy school or daycare near you.
